Key Features
- If you agree that the simplest solution is usually the correct solution, you’ll love Woodpeckers 2096 Workholding Kit. Few things are simpler than two opposing wedges, and that’s one of the principles behind this kit. With one wedge fixed, the opposing wedge can apply amazing gripping strength with the tiniest application of pressure. When you’re done and ready for the next piece, a simple tap on the narrow end of the floating wedge and it’s free. Another simple approach is a bench stop or “dog” with a fixed height…no springs, no clamps, just a shoulder that keeps it in place. The kit has a gaggle of them. “2096” refers to the spacing on Festool MFT tables…20mm holes machined on 96mm centers. We designed the kit around the MFT, but if you don’t have one, don’t worry. With Woodpeckers Hole Boring Jig (sold separately) you can make your own table tops with the exact same spacing pattern and hole size.
- It starts with the dogs. The shafts of the solid aluminum dogs are turned on CNC lathes to a 20mm diameter for the first 7/8 of an inch. That section drops into your table. Above the table the dogs stand 1/8", 3/8", 0.7" or 2". That size range provides a solid stop that rests below the surface of most any material thickness you might use. The fifth dog is the cleverest of the pack. Thread the stem into any of the 1/8" dogs and you now have an adjustable height dog that can support rabbeted workpieces or anything with an offset shoulder up to 2-1/2".
- Combine the dogs with the wedges for rock solid workholding. To go along with the dogs the kit includes a set of 1/4" solid phenolic plates that create an opposing wedge clamp. Lock a straight edge stop or a couple of dogs on your table, put your workpiece against it, then position a floating wedge and a fixed wedge on the other side. Lock the fixed wedge to the table, give the floating wedge a tap and your workpiece is secure and ready for you to rout, saw, mortise, bevel, sand or whatever it is you need to do.
- With two sizes of floating wedges you’ll always be able to match up your workpiece to the holes in the table. To support longer work or set up multiple jobs at once, you have enough dogs, stops and wedges to have two identical clamping stations set up at the same time.
