• Woodpeckers took the form factor of the familiar carpenter's square and enlarged it to sizes suited to large-scale furniture and cabinet work. But the new 12" and 18" Precision Triangles aren't stamped out like big-box-store carpenter's squares. Each one is precision-machined to the same tolerance we use when making our famous Precision Woodworking Squares. Here's an 18" reference with both 90° and 45° angles where the maximum allowable deviation is less than half the thickness of a typical human hair. We added a base to one edge of the square for convenience when doing layout work, but if you want the square to lie flat, the base comes off with just a few machine screws. With or without the base, you have a highly versatile and extremely accurate tool that will elevate your layout work, assembly checks and machinery set-up.
• When you’re using the triangle as a giant carpenter’s square, the base gives you a positive reference to your workpiece edge…just hook it and mark. It also acts as a foot when you want to check a vertical face, like the inside of a cabinet. And, nothing could be handier when you’re setting up a track saw table. 
• But there are times when you want a 90° or 45° reference without a shoulder, for example, checking the inside of a drawer for square, or setting the miter gauge on your table saw. When you want it flat, just spin out the socket head cap screws and the base comes off, leaving you with a triangle that lies perfectly flat. 
• We machine the Precision Triangles from cast and ground tool plate aluminum – the most dimensionally stable aluminum available. We treat the surface for improved wear resistance and to give the triangles our familiar “Woodpeckers Red” color. The two 90° edges are laser engraved with graduations in your choice of inch or metric. The resulting white-on-red scale is easy to read, even for older eyes or poor lighting conditions.
